Chuck's Bio
Chuck is the co-host of Mississippi Sports This Morning from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. on WJDX-AM 620, The Score Sports Radio. He came to Jackson in August of 1995, joining the WLBT-TV sports staff.  He has been the weekend sports anchor there since 1996.

He joined WJDX in March of 2000 where he was partnered with Doug Colson.  Remarkably both are somehow avid Seattle Seahawks fans.

After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro in August of 1985, Chuck took his first sports job in Greenville, Mississippi, at WXVT-TV, the CBS affiliate. Leaving Greenville in October of 1987, he would return to Greenville in November of 1988 to work at WABG-TV, the ABC affiliate. After six months, he was named the station's Sports Director and held that position until he resigned to accept the sports reporting position at WLBT.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida he grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Chuck and his wife, Regina, have been married since 1992 and have three daughters -- Claire, Emily, and Molly.

More programming notes for you this week.

We are slated to talk with Michael Dirocco, the Florida beat writer for the Florida Times Union, Don Lee of Belhaven and Mike DuBose of Millsaps Wednesday as we continue our college football previews.

Also on Wednesday, Ray Guy will be on to talk about an event he's hosting in Hattiesburg.

You know, on a personal note...I can't believe I am going to talk to Ray Guy. That boggles my mind. I grew up watching him with the Raiders and to be able to get a chance to interview him is awesome.

I've been lucky because my job(s) have allowed me to talk to some of the greats in the sports world. This will rank up there with all of them.

On Thursday, we will talk to Jeff Shearer of WSFA-TV in Montgomery, Alabama about the Auburn Tigers.

And on Friday, we will talk to Marc Weiszer who covers Georgia for the Athens Banner Herald.

Stay tuned. There are more interviews to come. Thanks for listening!

Just a programming note or two for you this week.

Right now we are set to talk a little South Carolina football in the 8:00 o'clock hour Monday with Joe Person of The State out of Columbia as we continue our previews around the SEC.

Also Monday we are going to be talking to Mississippi College head coach Norman Joseph.

Tuesday we are slated to talk Kentucky Wildcats beat writer Chip Cosby of the Lexington Herald.

On Wednesday we will talk with Millsaps head coach Mike DuBose. The Majors have 133 players out for camp. That's a lot of jock itch...Both the Majors and Choctaws are expected to do well this year and play September 6th. That's gonna be a good one.

A few notes while sitting at the TV station waiting to do the news on an Olympic Saturday night.

Michael Phelps is phenomenal. I just got done watching him win medal number eight of the Beijing games. That is a feat that won't be accomplished again in my lifetime. Wow...that hurt.

The Saints offense looked good in a 31-27 loss to Houston. The defense did not. I'm afraid that if coach Sean Payton doesn't find a suitable replacement for Jason David, this team could be in a fix when crunch time comes. He's just not getting the job done and the Texans went at him hard tonight and won every time it seemed.

It was good to see Deuce McAllister back. He didn't play a lot or run for a lot but when he did carry the ball he made some nice cuts and didn't seem worried about his knee...or actually, his knees!

That should do. I've got to go get pretty for the TV...

August 15, 2008

It's Friday and it's payday. That's the best part of the day. The second is that I am off from my other job (WLBT) today. Wait I've got to mow the yard.

Check that. I would rather be at the TV station.

But the really good thing about today is that we are one day closer to the football season. In two weeks the high schools kick off full force. In two weeks and one day the college season for Mississippi will be in full swing.

The NFL follows less than a week later.

We are getting in football 'shape' by taking a cruise through the SEC for the next two weeks. We have already talked to beat writers for Tennessee and Vanderbilt and plan on hitting the rest of the league one team at a time.

We are also going to take a tour of the state schools one at a time.

It's really the best time of year isn't it? It's two weeks before "Sports Christmas"!
